The tale of the balanced king

December 4, 2024 · Parents and Children

Once upon a time, in the lush lands of Bharatvarsha, there was a king named Vikram who ruled with kindness and wisdom. His palace shimmered with golden domes, and his kingdom thrived with bustling markets, joyful festivals, and fields as far as the eye could see.

But despite all his riches, King Vikram was not happy. His head felt like it was on fire, his body was always tired, and his heart was as heavy as a stone. He couldn’t enjoy the songs of the birds or the scent of the jasmine flowers in his garden.

The people of the kingdom whispered among themselves, “What has happened to our beloved king?”

One day, as the golden sun dipped into the horizon, three mysterious travelers arrived at the palace gates. They were unlike anyone the guards had ever seen.

The first traveler had a flowing scarf that swirled like a breeze. The second had hair that flickered like flames. And the third carried a basket of herbs and flowers, smelling of rain and earth.

When the guards asked who they were, the travelers replied in unison, “We are messengers of balance, sent to help your king.”

The guards hurried to the royal court, and soon the three travelers stood before King Vikram. They bowed deeply and introduced themselves.

The first traveler, with the swirling scarf, stepped forward. “I am Vata, the wind,” he said with a gentle smile. “I bring creativity and movement, but when I grow too wild, I make the mind restless and the body weak. My king, you must slow down and ground yourself. Eat warm, hearty foods, take calming walks, and wrap yourself in comfort to calm my storm.”

The second traveler, with flaming hair, flicked her hands like sparks of fire. “I am Pitta, the flame,” she said, her voice fierce but steady. “I bring focus and strength, but when I burn too brightly, I cause anger, heat, and exhaustion. Cool me down with juicy fruits, green vegetables, and soothing herbs like mint. Rest in the shade and drink plenty of water to quench my fire.”

The third traveler, carrying the fragrant basket, stepped forward with a gentle laugh. “I am Kapha, the earth and water,” he said. “I bring stability and calm, but when I grow too heavy, I cause sluggishness and sadness. To wake me, move your body with joy, eat light and spicy meals, and surround yourself with laughter.”

King Vikram listened intently, but his brow furrowed with confusion. “How do I know which of you is troubling me the most? You each seem so wise.”

Suddenly, the palace doors creaked open, and in walked Sage Arya, the most respected healer in the land. Her long white robes swayed as she approached the throne. She held a small bowl of water in her hand.

“Your Majesty,” said Sage Arya with a kind smile, “you are overheated and tired because Pitta, the fire within you, is out of balance. This fire must be soothed. Follow the advice of Pitta’s messenger, and you will feel like yourself again.”

Sage Arya taught the king a simple daily routine. Each morning, he began his day with a refreshing drink of coconut water and mint leaves. He practiced gentle stretches under the shade of the banyan tree, feeling the cool earth beneath his feet. His meals were light and fresh, with juicy fruits and cooling herbs like coriander. In the evenings, he spent time with his people, laughing and sharing stories, and ended each day watching the moon rise in the quiet sky.

Day by day, King Vikram’s strength returned. His eyes sparkled with joy, and his laugh was so hearty it echoed through the palace halls. The gardens began to bloom again, the birds returned with their cheerful songs, and the people of the kingdom celebrated their king’s renewed health.

To thank the messengers, King Vikram held a grand feast in their honor. He invited the villagers to the palace, where Sage Arya shared the secrets of the three energies—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. The people learned how to care for their own balance, and the kingdom became a place where everyone thrived in harmony with nature.

And so, King Vikram’s tale was told for generations, reminding everyone that balance isn’t something you find—it’s something you create, with care, love, and a little wisdom from the winds, the fire, and the earth.

The End. 🌿✨
